Dean Romano, President & Senior Consultant

Dean founded Boston Data Technologies, Inc. in response to the demand for custom built database applications developed in a timely and cost effective manner. Dean developed a model using a RAD (Rapid Application Development) approach that could meet this demand. In 1996, Dean developed a shrink-wrapped CD-ROM based application called PHYSICIANSearch for Windows (PSW). PSW allowed hospitals and physician groups to have quick, easy access to key data on thousands of physicians used for marketing and provider enrollment efforts.

From 1990 to 2002, Dean served as Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Systems for the Brigham and Womens Physicians Organization, a $150M, 500+ physician multi-specialty group practice in a Harvard Medical School affiliated teaching hospital. Dean directed all MIS functions including resource and systems management, network administration and operational systems support for all of the major specialty group practices within the Brigham and Womens Hospital. Dean also led the merger of seven specialty physician foundations onto a single physician organization systems platform.

Over the years, Dean has introduced and implemented various emerging technologies and decision support systems. Two high profile accomplishments have been the development of a secure, web based information delivery system and data warehouse, and a palm pilot based charge capture solution for the Brigham and Womens Physicians Organization. Dean was quoted in an article in Health Data Management Magazine on measuring the return on investment (ROI) for the Department of Surgerys palm pilot system.
